5 bodies, 5 personalities, 1 space
Body painting x Photography x visual communication project.
Body Painted lives is a site-specific project I have created during my Bachelors degree, over a period of 3 months.
It is a representation of a connection between people and space. In this case the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. A creative space, which holds different kind of artistic events, concerts, art exhibitions and courses. As a one of the Aberystwyth University’s facilities it is as well an influential part of student’s life. Many pupils spend there their free time, work and learn, attend all the mentioned above happenings, eat or simply spend time with friends.
To recreate the relation between students and the Arts Centre, I have decided to ask five students who spend their time in the Centre about their memories or stories that they had with it. They told me about the stories of their lives and how the Centre has impacted their student experience.
After hearing student’s histories I decided to illustrate and visually represent them on the story teller’s bodies with a use of body paint.
To present my idea to the wider audience and to document my temporary paintings I have taken pictures of the participants. The pictures later have been printed out in a large scale format and displayed in the Arts Centre itself.
